Johnson+JOhnson=Filament+Tape
Like so many tape innovations (gaffers tape, duct tape, etc.), filament tape was developed by Johnson & Johnson, an innovator in tape manufacturing for almost a century.
In 1946, J&J employee Cyrus Bemmels developed a process for laminating a tape backing to polyester filaments, creating a strong, yet lightweight tape that was initially used in packaging.
Bemmels’s invention led to today’s bi-filament tape that is used for for hexayurt construction.
