Disastr Hotel-Hexayurt Experiment On A Grand Scale
This posting is not about something new, but a 2011 disaster housing experiment in Australia helps you see the hexayurt in the view of why it was originally designed.
What has become the signature shelter solution for Burning Man was originally invented by Vinay Gupta to be an inexpensive and quickly deployable shelter to be used after a disaster.
Disastr Hotel took place at Sydney University in April of 2011 and involved setting up not only a village of hexayurts but also the necessary infrastructure (water, sanitation, cooking, etc.) that would be necessary to survive after a disaster that destroyed large parts of local infrastructure.
