BLM ups the Black Rock City Permit Cap by 10,000 People

It’s almost that time…..the time when tens of thousands of artistic souls pour into the Nevada desert for a week of mingling, sharing, and inspiring. But with all the logistical snafus that have presented themselves throughout the year, some may have been a little worried. Initially, the Bureau of Land Management wanted to limit the number of people in Black Rock City to 58,000, with serious penalties for exceeding that number. In both 2010 and 2011 the cap was set at 50,000 people, and it was exceeded both times. It seemed that BLM was getting a little anxious about the environmental impact of Black Rock City, but they officially stated on June 12th that they are comfortable with a 60,000 person cap. Burning Man organizers are, as usual, taking every opportunity to reduce the environmental footprint left by the temporary city.  To read more about the  BLM’s decision, click here.
